In a fight that every boxing fan worldwide wants to see....and even undedicated followers want to see, a cloud still hovers over this fight being made. This has already been noted as the richest fight in boxing history, but more than that it will be a fight to determine who truly is the best fighter of this era and the pound-for-pound best in the world.
The debate has been in full force as their fight date in March fell apart over Mayweather's new standard blood/urine testing program that he now expects all opponents to follow in order to face him. Manny being the naturally smaller opponent requested a cut-off date no more than 24 days before the bout. He believes it weakens him and in doing so before led him to lose the first of three bouts against Erik Morales.
The bout was slated for problems before as Floyd Mayweather's former promoter Bob Arum (now Manny's promoter) was guaranteed negotiation problems as the two have a very rough history. Even more problems arose Mayweather Jr.s father began accussations of Manny using PED's after his 2nd round knock out over Ricky Hatton.
Gasoline was added to the fire as Mayweather Jr. began insisting the same, stating that he does not see how Manny can naturally rise to the level that he has. This led to Pacquiao filing a defamation of character lawsuit against the Mayweathers which is still pending.
Still, with no proof and Manny never having any claims of using PED's by any boxing commission in over 50 pro bouts, Mayweather insists on the tests or no fight will take place.
Manny on the other hand has stated in a blog that he would love to give fans what they want and would agree to blood tests no more than 14 days before the fight.
Truly this bout not coming together would be a knife in the heart of boxing as the sports two biggest stars have virtually beaten all opposition. On top of that, the people want nothing more than the two best fighters in the world squaring off to determine who really is the best of this era.
Mayweather Jr. claims money not legacy drive him, but his dedication and training would say otherwise. Manny on the other hand is all about fighthing the best and thrives on top notch performances.
Somehow, someway.....this fight must happen.
Manny Pacquiao 51-3-2 (39 KO) WBO Welterweight Champion
Floyd Mayweather Jr. 41-0 (25 KO)
Not years later, but now in their primes, after they have both defeated nothing but top-level fighters must this bout happen.
